This five-story Italianate style cast-iron loft building was constructed in 1872 by Griffith Thomas. It was the home of prominent publishers releasing leftist and social-justice-oriented works; one of the first socialist newspapers in America and New York’s first English-language socialist paper; organizations associated with a Zionist youth movement; a uniform manufacturer; a prominent Book Row seller; and a renowned lithographer.
