November Programs You Don’t Want to Miss: East Village ’80s Chaos + 1940s Art Spies in Greenwich Village

Here are two great November programs from Village Preservation you won’t want to miss:
- Vibrant Chaos — The East Village in the 1980s, Wednesday, November 18 at 6 pm, free, via Zoom. Photographer Peter Bennett speaks about his new book capturing images of the East Village in the early 1980s. Peter captured the colorful street life of St. Mark’s Place, the dystopian landscapes of Alphabet City, the unique shops, cafes, and clubs, and the music and art world. These photographs, mostly taken on Kodachrome color slide film, show what everyday life was really like in this eclectic community.
- Michelle Young: The Art Spy, Thursday, November 19 at 6 pm, free, in person. The Art Spy is a riveting book by Michelle Young set in Paris during World War II that uncovers how an unlikely heroine, Rose Valland, infiltrated the Nazi leadership to save the world’s most treasured masterpieces of art. The links to our neighborhoods include connections between key actors in this incredible story and artists here in New York, including the painter Roberto Matta who was living at 137 MacDougal Street.
