Rally to Save the East Village’s Most Holy Redeemer Church, Saturday, July 18 at Noon

Join Village Preservation, parishioners, elected officials, the East Village Community Coalition (EVCC), and the Lower East Side Preservation Initiative (LESPI) on Saturday, July 18 at noon outside Most Holy Redeemer Church at 173 East 3rd Street (east of Avenue A) for a rally to save the endangered historic church.

The archdiocese has closed Most Holy Redeemer to parishioners for over 10 months, and made several moves indicating they intend to permanently shut down the church. This would likely lead to its sale and destruction. The building, which dates to 1851, holds a wealth of history, especially NYC immigrant history, and we have urged the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission to landmark the structure to prevent its destruction.
