Scott Laperruque — Village Halloween Parade Collection
In the 1980s, photographer Scott Laperruque and his wife Amy lived on West 10th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues, a perfect vantage point from which to photograph the annual Village Halloween Parade.
This collection of black-and-white and color images was taken between 1982 and 1986, and highlight the people, costumes, and flavor of the era. The photos document an important period of the parade’s history. Taken just after it outgrew its grassroots beginnings as a more informal event winding its way through the streets of the West Village, it shows its early years after it moved to Sixth Avenue, but well before it became what is now recognized as the largest Halloween parade in the world.
